Sort the date, sort the party

Summer Saturdays book out first. And if you want a Dyer park shelter, know that the town takes reservations in person from January onward, first-come first-served — so the good dates go long before the weather turns. Set your date and the grid below only shows what's actually free.

Which one do you actually need?

Two taps. No email, no phone number, no catch.

Step 1 — Who's doing the jumping?

Step 2 — Where are we setting up?

If they're still little

Under about 6, a slide mostly creates a queue and a climb. An open jump area keeps everyone bouncing at once. Most standard bounce houses are built for around 5 to 6 kids of similar size at a time.

Grassy backyard: we anchor with stakes, so mark any sprinkler heads or underground lines before we arrive. Mow no later than the day before, and clear pet waste and toys from the setup area.

Driveway or concrete: doable in a lot of cases, but it changes how we anchor. Tell us at booking that there's no grass so we bring the right setup.

Park, school, or church lot: tell us which one when you book. Good news if you're thinking of a park here: the town says every Dyer park shelter has electricity available, so you probably won't need a generator. Just confirm the outlet is within 50 feet of where the unit is going.

Primary-school age

Seven-and-up burns out on a plain bounce in about twenty minutes. A slide or a themed unit holds them for the whole party. Both of these work for this age.

Lots of kids, lots of ages

With a wide age range, one inflatable turns into a bottleneck and the little ones get bounced around by the big ones. A large combo plus a game splits the crowd and keeps the teenagers and adults busy too.

Driveway or concrete: doable in a lot of cases, but it changes how we anchor. Tell us at booking that there's no grass, and keep in mind two units need two clear areas.

Park, school, or church lot: tell us which one when you book. Two inflatables usually means two outlets, and in Dyer remember the town ordinance: any group of 10 or more needs a park permit.

  • Confirm the spaceCheck the space listed on the product page against your yard. We can't be responsible for a unit that doesn't fit once we arrive.
  • Cut the grass earlyFresh clippings stick to vinyl and end up inside the bounce house with the kids.
  • Clear up after the dogWe ask for this every time, and every time somebody is glad we did.
  • Find your outletOne standard household outlet runs most bounce houses, and the blower stays running the whole time it's in use.
  • Show us the sprinkler linesInflatables get staked into the ground. If we don't know where the lines are, we can't avoid them.
  • Unlock the gate for usGates unlocked, toys and patio furniture moved, low branches noted. Rolled-up inflatables are heavy and wide.
  • Put the balance asideCash or check, handed over at setup. That's the last thing on the list.

Every Dyer shelter has power

This is the bit worth knowing: the town lists electricity as available at all of its park shelters. In a lot of nearby towns a park party means hiring a generator — in Dyer it usually doesn't. There is one rule that catches people out, though, and it's in the last card.

Tap through for the details.

Pheasant Hills Park Pavilion plus north and south shelters

Probably the most popular choice for a kids' party here — there's a pavilion that gets rented for picnics through the season, two newer shelters, a playground, a skate park and a grass volleyball court just west of the pavilion. It backs straight onto Kahler Middle School, which makes it an easy landmark for guests. Note there's no fishing in the pond.

Plum Creek Center at Elmer Miller Park 222 Schulte Street

The indoor option, which is handy in early spring or late autumn when you want the food and presents under a roof and the bouncing outside. It's available Fridays and Saturdays until 10pm and Sundays until 9pm, as long as the town isn't using it for its own functions — so ask early.

The other town shelters 21 parks across Dyer

Dyer has 21 parks in total, and the smaller neighbourhood shelters are usually the quietest and cheapest way to do this. Because the town lists electricity at its shelters, you're generally not hunting for a generator wherever you land — just check the outlet is within 50 feet of where the unit will sit.

What the town asks of you The 10-person rule and booking window

Two things to plan around. First, a town ordinance requires any group of 10 or more to hold a park permit — that's a low bar, and most birthday parties clear it, so assume you need one. Second, shelter reservations are taken in person on a first-come, first-served basis starting in January for that same year, with the fee and deposit paid up front to hold the date; the season runs roughly 15 May to 15 October. Also worth knowing: Dyer parks are alcohol-free, and the town runs a lightning-prediction system across its park sites, so if it sounds an alert everyone comes off the inflatable.

Dyer Parks and Recreation is on (219) 865-2505. Tell us which shelter you've booked and we'll plan the drop around it.

Who you're actually renting from

A family business, not a warehouse

Nine years ago we rented a bounce house for a Fourth of July party. The communication was poor and the service was worse. So we bought our own inflatable, then bought a small local rental company that was closing — a trailer, a phone number, and a handful of units.

That's Bouncy B's. The name comes from our three kids: Brayden, Bryce and Briella — they're the ones in the logo. Ray, Meghan and the kids are still the people answering the phone and pulling into your driveway.

Meet the Family

Worth booking at the same time

Add any of these to the same order and they arrive on the same trailer, on the same delivery fee. Here's what each one actually solves.

What parents usually ask

Tap any question to open it.

How much does it cost to rent a bounce house in Dyer?

Standard bounce houses start at $160. Combo units with a slide run from $247.20 up to $360.50 depending on size. Delivery is quoted separately against your Dyer address at checkout, so you see it before you pay anything.

How early should I reserve?

As early as you can. Popular weekends, the summer holidays and graduation season fill up quickly here, and the earlier you reserve the more of the catalog you get to choose from.

How many kids fit in a bounce house at once?

Most standard bounce houses are designed for roughly 5 to 6 children of similar size at a time. Exact occupancy is listed on each rental page, and kids of similar age and size should bounce together.

What about a party in a Dyer park?

Yes, and Dyer is one of the easier towns for it. The town says every park shelter has electricity available, so a generator usually isn't needed. Three things to plan around: a town ordinance requires any group of 10 or more to hold a park permit, so most birthday parties need one; shelter reservations are taken in person on a first-come, first-served basis from January for that calendar year, with payment and deposit due to hold the date; and the shelter season generally runs 15 May to 15 October. Call Dyer Parks and Recreation on (219) 865-2505 and mention the inflatable when you book.

What if it rains on party day?

Safety comes first. If severe weather is expected we may recommend postponing, and rescheduling options may be available. For inflatables we ask for at least 24 hours' notice on a weather-related reschedule, so call or text us as soon as the forecast turns.

Can you set up on a driveway instead of grass?

Concrete and pavement work in many cases, but it changes how we anchor, so tell us during booking if there's no grass at your setup spot.

Does a bounce house need electricity?

Yes. Most bounce houses run on one standard household outlet within 50 feet of the setup area, and the blower needs to stay running the whole time the unit is in use. In Dyer that is less of a worry, because the town lists electricity as available at its park shelters.

Are the units cleaned each time?

Yes — every inflatable is cleaned and sanitized before each rental, not just at the end of a busy weekend.

When do I pay, and what's the cancellation policy?

A deposit reserves your rentals for your date and is non-refundable, since it takes those units off the calendar. If you only paid a deposit, the remaining balance is due at setup by cash or check. Weather-related rescheduling options may be available with proper notice.
